Dr. Aamer Malik Khan
Dr. Malik began his medical career at the University of Nairobi in Kenya (1992-1994) but later transferred and obtained his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Navarra, in Pamplona, Spain (1994-1999). He undertook his specialty through the Spanish Ministry of Educations national exam for Physician Resident training in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Hospital Vall de Hebrón in Barcelona (2000-20059. This is the largest reference center for this pathology in Catalonia. He worked as a consultant at Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Pablo in Barcelona after finishing his specialty (2005-2006). After specializing, he completed his clinical accreditation to practice in the United States through the USMLE's (United States Medical Licensing Exams). Thereafter, in the United States he carried out two prestigious and highly competitive fellowships in the subspecialty of Adult Reconstructive Surgery in the United States at the Dorr Arthritis Institute in Los Angeles, University of Southern California (2006-2007) and at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), New York Presbytarian-Cornell University (2008-2009). HSS has been voted the number one center for the treatment of orthopedic pathology for multiple years in the United States.
Upon his return from the US in 2010, he joined the Sagrat Cor University Hospital undertaking simultaneously an arthroscopic training and sports medicine consultancy at the Catalan Football Association (2010 and 2011). He currently works at the Hospital Universitari Sagrat Cor as a consultant, coordinator of the Hip Unit and academic tutor for medical student and resident training there. He forms part of their research and investigation group of the center. His private practice is at the Teknon and Catalonia Medical Centers in Barcelona from 2011 to the present and the founder of the Barcelona International Center for Orthopedic Surgery (BICOS).
He undertakes permanent activity in education and voluntary surgery especially in East Africa through the two foundations with which he works: NED Foundation (Neurosurgery Education and Development of Valencia) and Operation Walk of the United States. He is an International Fellow of COSECSA (College of Surgeons of East, Central and South Africa) collaborating in surgical training in the field of orthopedic surgery there.
He is a specialist in adult reconstructive surgery with a special focus on primary and revision prosthetic surgery (septic and aseptic) of the hip and knee and an expert in arthroscopic surgery of the hip, knee and shoulder applying complementary biological therapies when indicated. He has multiple publications in peer review journals and is involved in research projects in the field of hip and knee surgery currently. He has a doctorate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in the Validation of Computer Navigation in Total Hip Replacement. He speaks English, Spanish, Catalan, Pakistani (Urdu and Punjabi) and Swahili.
